This co-operative was founded in 1940 and currently boasts 451 members. It owns 3,682 hectares of vineyard, and farms a further 1,106. Over 1,000 hectares are certified organic, with most of the rest to follow. The vineyards are in the Famatina Valley and are located at between 1,000 and 1,400m, ameliorating the heat. Winemaking De-stemmed and cold macerated for 48 hours. Fermented in concrete tank at 24-26C over 7 days with delestage and pump overs. 60% was aged in barrel (805 French, 20% American oak) for 5 months before sterile filtration at bottling. Tasting Note Classic deep purple. Sumptous, rich blackberries and plums, enlivened with notes of violet, licqourice and spicy oak. Silken and opulent, but with enough heft and structure to maintain good posture. Food Matching Big, fat, juicy steaks. Red meat casseroles. Barbecue.
