Description Safety Arming Feature The motor will not spin after the battery is connected regardless of throttle position, preventing accidental starts and requiring a deliberate arming action, often via a dedicated transmitter switch or flight controller mode. This feature checks for safe conditions before enabling the motor, including correct gyro values, minimum throttle, and valid receiver connection. Brake and Battery Settings via Jumper Connector Brake function and battery type are selectable by moving a jumper connector, allowing users to toggle between braking settings (on/off, medium, etc.) and select between battery chemistries (LiPo, NiMH, LiFe) for optimal ESC response. Factory settings typically set brake to “On, medium effect” and battery type to “Li-ion & Li-polymer,” with voltage cutoff levels adapting based on selected chemistry. Low Voltage Cut-off Protection Low voltage cut-off helps prolong battery life by automatically reducing or stopping power output when battery voltage drops below a safe threshold, usually programmable per cell (e.g., 3.0–3.3V for LiPo). The cut-off feature prevents deep discharge, which can damage battery cells or drastically shorten their lifespan. Over-heat Protection The ESC will throttle down or stutter output if the temperature exceeds certain thresholds (e.g., above 110°C), forcing cooldown before normal operation resumes. Over-heat protection often stops the motor or reduces speed, preventing ESC damage during excessive current draw or poor cooling scenarios. Throttle Signal Loss Protection If the ESC loses the throttle signal for over a set duration (e.g., 0.25 seconds), it will immediately cut output, stopping the motor to prevent uncontrolled flight or runaway situations. Once the signal is restored, normal motor operation resumes, ensuring safe flight recovery.   These combined features ensure safer flights, longer battery life, and better component protection, making advanced ESCs essential for modern RC and drone use.
