The Jende 1×6 Rough leather strop is made from premium quality veg tanned leather with the suede side up. The rough side of the leather makes the strop more aggressive when maintaining your edges. This can be used clean, or can be loaded with stropping Compounds, Emulsions, or Sprays. The rough leather knife strop sits on a 5mm thick acrylic base and mounted to a standard 1″x6″ blank and is compatible with the Jende JIGS, Hapstone, Edge Pro and TSProf sharpeners, and with the Wicked Edge Uni Stone Holder Paddles. They can be loaded with our Jende Emulsions, and Aluminum Oxide and Chromium Oxide Compound Bars for more aggressive stropping. Why should I use the Smooth or Rough side of the Strop? The smooth side of leather strops is the default side, and is traditionally used for final stropping and maintenance stropping. The rough side is rougher, as the name implies. This more textured side of the rough leather strop has a more 3 dimensional surface contact with the blade, making it more aggressive than smooth leather in that respect. When the rough strop is loaded with abrasive emulsions or compound, it becomes even more aggressive than its smooth counterpart. Simply answered, if you want a more aggressive leather strop, the rough side is better, if you want a less aggressive leather strop, the smooth side is better.
